Green powered homes are those that utilize "green energy". This is a term used for using energy sources that are renewable, sustainable and have little to no effect upon the environment in the consumption or use of the energy produced by these resources. Another term used is "sustainable technology" - it means pretty much the same thing; using resources that are renewable, and having no negative effects on the environment in the consumption and use of any power generated from such a source. What are some examples?
Well for instance, there is solar power. This is a superb example; the sun's light is a renewable resource because the sun constantly produces light, and will for zillions of years into the future. There is no way any amount of solar panels can deplete it of its energy, and any and all use of the power it provides leaves absolutely no effect upon the environment - perfect for green powered homes. In contrast, the burning of fossil fuels for power is using a non-renewable resource. Fossil fuels never get renewed, only consumed - and their negative effects upon the environment are not ignorable.
Another example of a system used by green powered homes is geothermal power. This uses heat from the ground for space heating and the production of electricity. One way this is done is by directing systems of pipes into the ground beneath a house's foundation for running water through them in order to transfer the ground's heat to the water. This water is then coursed throughout the house to provide heat, and through the use of heat pumps generate electricity. This type of sustainable technology has actually been in use for many centuries, even by the ancient Romans for space heating and the heating of water for public baths.
Green powered homes also can utilize the power of the wind. Wind-powered generators actually deliver a lot of electrical output. Many homes run completely on one or two of these, using a large battery cell much like those used for forklifts in order to store the surplus and regulate the current to their homes for everyday use. All of these, solar power, geothermal power and wind power are just three examples of sustainable technology. There is no need to burn fossil fuels and continue scorching deeper the carbon footprint into our Earth. There is no need to dig up the Earth for such fuels, in one country or another. The sun continuously gives us energy we can use, the wind gives it to us as well, as does the Earth itself. The energy that these provide is clean, free, and using it leaves no mark upon our environment. There really is no excuse not to put to work the great gifts that are given to us through these.
